Homework for October 26 and Mid-Term

The Mid-Term Exam will test reading comprehension and vocabulary exam based on the book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. You will NOT be writing an essay for the exam. The exam will cover pages 1 to 136.  Please be on time!

I. Read the next section in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, 137—176. As you read, do the following:

1.       Write down the questions you have as you’re reading. DO THIS AS YOU ARE READING. Post this on your blog.

2.       Grammar, vocabulary, and idiomatic language: Make notes on sentences that you didn’t understand and of vocabulary that you found confusing, even with the aid of your dictionary. Be sure to write down the page number and paragraph number so you can locate the sentence and phrase when we talk about it. Enter these into the Vocabulary.

3.       Opinion and Interpretation: In this section, write what you think the point of this reading was; what was the author trying to tell us in these chapters. Write whether you liked this section or not and why. Don’t just say, “It was too hard” or "I liked it."  Instead EXPLAIN, why you thought it was hard. EXPLAIN what you liked. Post this on your blog.

4.       Summary: In this part, write down ONLY the important factual information from the chapter(s) you are responding to. This should be short and only include the most important events or ideas in the chapters. DON’T ASK QUESTIONS IN THIS PART (#1), DON’T GIVE OPINION IN THIS PART (#3), DON’T INTERPRET WHAT YOU READ  HERE (#3) Post this on your blog.
