Wednesday, November 16 - Class work.


1. Re-read Aesop's fable, The Ant and the Grasshopper.
2. Review questions: CLICK HERE!
3. Preview questions for W.S. Maugham's story, "The Ant and the Grasshopper"
4. Let's re-read the story.
5. Blog post: Do you think the message in Maugham's story is the same as or different from the message in the Aesop fable of the ant and the grasshopper? Explain.
6. Reading for more detail; divide into groups and answer these questions.
7. For homework (due 11/30!): Post on your blog a SUMMARY of both the fable and the short story so your reader understands how the two versions differ (5 - 8 sentences). Then respond to the following in 5 - 8 sentences:
There is a British saying that goes, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy." This applies to George in the Maugham story. Who do you agree with more: Aesop or Maugham? Explain your answer using examples from your own life and what you have observed in other people. (Other people can be people you know personally or have read about.)
